Man and daughter held hostage during robbery
It has emerged that a man and his 18-month-old daughter were held hostage during the robbery of a fast food restaurant in Co Down on Sunday.
Two men, one with a handgun, forced their way into a house in the Barcroft area of Newry at 8.30pm and ordered the man’s partner to drive to a Burger King restaurant near the Quays Shopping Centre and empty the safe.
The man and his daughter were held captive at the house while the woman handed over a "substantial" sum of money, thought to be up to £10,000, to a man in Dominic Street.
Newry and Armagh Ulster Unionist MLA Danny Kennedy condemned the incident and said new security measures must be implemented to protect key members of staff.
“This type of robbery is occurring with increasing regularity in Northern Ireland where the lives of families is being put at risk by criminal elements,” Mr Kennedy said.
“I condemn those who have put this family through a traumatic ordeal, particularly when a young child was involved. I would appeal for anyone who can assist the police with their investigation to contact them as soon as possible.”

Man Arrested Over Armed Robbery In West Belfast
A man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery in west Belfast. The robbery happened at a shop on Caffrey Avenue at around 9.30pm on Tuesday, 27 February. The suspect threatened a member of staff and made off with a sum of cash and cigarettes. He was arrested on Wednesday, 28 February, and has been detained in police custody.

Man held at knifepoint during robbery
Police are appealing for information after a customer at a petrol station in east Belfast had a knife held to his throat during a robbery last night. At around 11.30pm, a man armed with a knife and with a scarf covering his face held up staff and a male customer at the Bellsbridge Filling Station on the Cregagh Road in east Belfast.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a report of an assault at licenced premises at the Rathfriland Road area of Dromara. Detective Inspector Bell said: "Shortly before 10:10pm on Friday 15th December, it was reported that an altercation occurred at a bar in the area following three men refused entry to the premises.
