Man arrested in fuel-laundering find
One man has been arrested after a fuel-laundering network was discovered in Co Tyrone on Tuesday.
Customs officers, alongside PSNI detectives, discovered two laundering plants in farm buildings in the Washingbay area of Coalisland, along with pumping and storage equipment, two vehicles and 8,000 litres of fuel.
Simultaneous searches of a filling station and a transport company in Coalisland resulted in the detention of a further 23,000 litres of fuel.
Customs Head of Investigation Northern Ireland, Anne-Marie Gordon said: “This HMRC and PSNI operation shows how joint working, as part of the Organised Crime Task Force, has stopped a substantial amount of harmful diesel entering the legitimate fuel market and affecting honest businesses.
“This joint initiative is part of our ongoing activity to detect not only the smuggling and laundering of illegal fuel, but also the onward transport and sale through commercial outlets across Northern Ireland.”
Investigations are continuing as officers from Customs and the PSNI dismantle diesel-laundering operation, Customs said.

Customs shut down Coalisland fuel laundering operation
Customs officers last night dismantled a fuel laundering plant at an industrial site in Co Tyrone. The plant, which was discovered in Coalisland, was capable of processing 25,000 litres of fuel per week. Around 6,700 litres of contaminated diesel, along with a van, tanks, pumps and filtration and storage equipment were removed during the operation.

Customs officers in Belfast and Armagh fuel seizures
Customs officers have seized illegal fuel and two vehicles used for transporting fuel in Co Armagh. In a joint operation with the PSNI, customs also seized in excess of 110,000 litres of fuel and closed two fuel retail sites in Belfast. The seizures were part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale of illegal fuel in the greater Belfast area.

£17m To Support Pensioners Affected By Winter Fuel Payment Changes
Communities Minister Gordon Lyons has announced a £17 million fund to support pensioners who have lost eligibility for the Winter Fuel Payment due to recent UK government changes. The one-off £100 payment will be automatically issued to an estimated 250,000 pensioners in around 170,000 households before the end of March 2025.

Fuel Laundering Plant 'Decommissioned'
An illicit plant with the capacity to produce more than two million litres of fraudulent diesel a year and evade £1.3m in excise duty per annum has been uncovered by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) in Co Down. The laundering unit was targeted by HMRC, accompanied by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).
