Plans for £6.2m Day Care Centres approved
Plans have been approved for two new Day Care Centres for People with a Learning Disability costing a total of £6.2 million.
The new Day Care Centres, which will replace existing facilities in Newry and Crossmaglen, will each provide 40 places and a modern service “to best meet the needs of people with learning disabilities in these areas”.
In approving the investment, Health Minister Shaun Woodward said: “These two new Day Care Centres will provide much needed support for some of the most vulnerable people in the Newry and Mourne Area.
“Like everyone else, people with a learning disability deserve a quality of life. These centres, staffed by highly committed teams, have the potential to significantly improve the lives of people with a learning disability and their families.”
An allocation for investment in learning disability services across the Province was included in the £2.2 billion investment programme announced for health and social services over the next ten years in the Investment Strategy for Northern Ireland in December 2004.
