Larne police launch new wrist-band campaign
Police in Larne have launched a new wrist band campaign for young people aimed at raising awareness of domestic violence in the home.
'Stop violence at Home', which is being supported by the Homefirst Domestic Violence Forum, will see the wrist bands, which are purple in colour, handed out to post primary school children in the Larne area to encourage healthy relationships.
Domestic Violence Officer for Larne DCU Jan McKay said: "Although very much a fashion accessory at the moment, it is hoped that ultimately this new wrist band will create an opportunity to protect and inform young people about domestic violence in the Larne area".
Hazel Baird, Chair of the Home First Domestic Violence Forum added: "It is vital that young people understand domestic violence and are committed to its prevention. Partnership between the Domestic Violence Forum, Women's Aid Groups and Community Safety Partnerships provide a valuable and unique opportunity to work together in a practical yet highly innovative way to address and reduce domestic violence in our society.”
On the reverse of the wrist band is an internet web site - www.thehideout.org.uk - which is dedicated to providing help, information and support for children and young people who have been, or who know someone, affected by domestic violence.

The roadshow, supported by AXA Insurance and the Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership, aims to educate young drivers about the dangers of irresponsible driving.
