Chair appointed for ILEX urban regeneration company
Professor Eddie Friel has been confirmed as chairperson of Ilex, the Urban Regeneration Company for the Derry City Council area.
A spokesperson for the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister and the Department for Social Development stated: “This is an important time for Ilex, with some key building blocks of the company’s regeneration framework being put in place over the next six to nine months. The two Departments are currently seeking a long term Chair. Professor Friel will provide the necessary leadership and direction to ensure that the strategic momentum achieved at Ilex is maintained until this process is concluded.
“Professor Friel has already played a key part in the company’s progress as a member of the Ilex Board. Both Departments are grateful to Professor Friel for agreeing to undertake this task.”
Currently a Director of Ilex, Profesor Friel has also been involved in the development of a tourism strategy for Derry City Council.
He has been adviser on tourism issues to a number of cities in Ireland, the UK, Europe and the USA.
He also managed the multi-million pound communications programme to establish Glasgow as Cultural Capital of Europe as well as having a major role in establishing the first Tourist Board for Glasgow.

Contractors & Suppliers 'Plug In' To Leisure Transformation Opportunities
More than 90 supply and contractor businesses attended a 'Meet the Buyer' event at Olympia Leisure Centre hoping to share in a £43 million contract to transform leisure in Belfast. Belfast City Council and property specialists, Heron Bros, said the number of companies which attended the event made it a worthwhile exercise.
