NI has highest freezer contents says survey

Northern Ireland has the highest level of freezer content in the UK, leading insurer Halifax has said.

According to new research by the company’s Home Insurance division, Britain’s households store over £3.7 billion worth of food in their freezer. However, Northern Ireland comes out on top where the average freezer contains a whopping £166.84 worth of food.

Vicky Emmott, senior underwriting manager at Halifax Home Insurance, said: "With thousands of friends and families across Northern Ireland set to hold barbecues over the bank holiday weekend, it would be an absolute nightmare for the freezer, packed full of gourmet goodies to suddenly break down.

"It’s not just the hungry guests that need to be dealt with; it’s the financial burden of all that food going to waste. Having your freezer contents covered against damage by your insurer can make a huge difference."

Northern Ireland’s closest rivals were East Anglia with £153.42 worth of food while at the bottom of the pile was the North East with £142.35.
