University builds technology links with India
The University of Ulster (UU) has signed an agreement with one of India's leading universities, following its participation in recent Invest NI organised trade missions to the region.
The memorandum of understanding between the UU and University of Madras in Chennai will see the two universities collaborate in biomedical sciences, conflict resolution, and cultural studies. It will also focus on technology and knowledge transfer, joint research projects, and both staff and student exchanges.
Commenting on the agreement, Richard Barnett, UU’s Acting Vice Chancellor, said: “Developing such international partnerships is an important element in the university’s growth strategy. Universities worldwide are co-operating increasingly across a range of activities, including major research projects.
"We believe that it is vitally important that the University of Ulster should be part of this global knowledge transfer trend."
The new agreement followed the University of Ulster’s participation in the trade mission to India in 2004 which was led by Barry Gardiner, the then Northern Ireland Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment.

University funding to be discussed at Queen’s
The future management of university funding in the UK will be debated at a major national conference at Queen's University next week. Around 120 finance chiefs from universities throughout the UK and Ireland will be visiting the campus for the annual conference of the British Universities Finance Directors Group (BUFDG).

UU in unique joint academic agreement
The University of Ulster has signed up to an unique educational partnership covering the awarding of degrees to students studying healthcare programmes online. The UK Healthcare Education Partnership (UKHEP) involves UU, City University, London, the University of Leicester and the Royal College of Nursing.
