Leading telecommunications expert visits UU
One of the world’s leading experts in Telecommunications Engineering has been visiting the University of Ulster's Coleraine campus in a bid to develop partnerships between the UU and other top research centres.
Professor Geng-Sheng Kuo, from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, the top research institute in China, specialises in research into wireless and mobile communications and broadband networks.
He is also a leading international official within the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers based in the United States.
During his visit to UU – which is part of an International Visiting Scholar Scheme - he met with Professor Gerard Parr, School of Computing and Information Engineering, and plans are now underway to create a UK-China research workshop project in the area of Next-Generation Networking.
Professor Parr said: “To have a world-renowned scientist of the calibre of Professor Kuo visit the University of Ulster is very exciting and opens up a number of strategic opportunities to develop our mutual interests in research in Next Generation Networking.
“We have had a very intensive week of discussions and we hope to develop our plans for collaboration in the very near future.”
Other future initiatives include collaboration through the British Council in Beijing with the MSc in Telecommunications and Internet Systems at UU and joint PhDs between the two institutions.
