UU rolls out anti-burglary DVD
The University of Ulster is to take part in an initiative aimed at reducing burglaries in off-campus student accommodation.
The DVD, which will be accessible to students from the University and Student’s Union web sites and at upcoming Fresher’s Fayres and other student inductions, aims to make students think about protecting their valuables.
Anne Monaghan, Community Relations Manager, welcomed the DVD, she said: “This is just one element in the whole campaign to address burglaries in areas of campus where our students live. The University of Ulster Student’s Union designed a student friendly leaflet and door sticker, which also forms part of the campaign.
"We urge all students to lock up, especially when going out, or home for the weekend, leave on a light, preferably on a timer switch and keep valuables out of sight.”
Burglaries are more prevalent in student areas due to the high volume of quality products including DVD and CD players, Play Stations and jewellery and the lack of care that some students take in protecting their own property and valuables.
The 'Good to Be Secure' DVD, which was produced by Drama students at Queen’s University, will be rolled out across all four campuses from the start of term.

Minister Reacts To Teachers' Union Ballot Threat
Education Minister Paul Givan has responded to the announcement by several teachers' unions that they plan to ballot their members for industrial action over 2024/25 pay. Earlier this year, the Minister provided funding to successfully resolve the long-running industrial dispute over teachers' pay for 2021-24.
