Coleraine town centre to get £745k makeover
Coleraine town centre is to receive a £745,000 makeover, it was announced today.
The Department of Social Development, which is partly funding the renovation in the Diamond, said new natural stone paving, seats and planters were being put in place as part of the scheme.
Speaking at an event in Coleraine Town Hall, Social Development Minister David Hanson said: "The scheme is creating a public space worthy of the Diamond and the centre of Coleraine.
"The quality of the design and the standard of materials and workmanship are a credit to all who have been involved in the project. I am very pleased that the Department for Social Development has been able to provide the funding to make it happen."
Work on Phase 1 of the environmental improvements in the Diamond started in the spring of 2004. Phases 2, 3 and 4 were started in April 2005 and completed in July while work on Phase 5 started in August and is scheduled to be completed by 4 November 2005.
