Seminar sets pace for NI infrastructure investment
A major seminar on infrastructure investment in Northern Ireland has been held in Londonderry today.
Organised by the Strategic Investment Board (SIB), the seminar was attended by the Advisory Council for Infrastructure Investment (ACII), key figures from political parties, public, private, voluntary, trade unions, and the academic sectors from across the UK, as well as the Republic of Ireland. Noel Treacy, Minister of State in the Department of the Taoiseach also attended the seminar.
The seminar addressed the challenges and lessons for infrastructure investment in Northern Ireland and examined the issues of competitiveness, regional disparity and social cohesion.
Commenting on the discussions Tony Watson, Chairman of SIB said: "I am delighted that we have been able to facilitate the meeting of such a wide range of senior stakeholders in one venue to address the accelerated pace of infrastructure investment in the context of economic competitiveness and the effect it will have on all the citizens of Northern Ireland.
A consensus emerged from the discussion around the need to improve the infrastructure of Northern Ireland, and a common purpose by all stakeholders to facilitate this in conjunction with SIB."
The event followed the SIB's board meeting which was held in Derry as part of their policy of holding regular meetings around Northern Ireland.
