Sanchez names 21-man World Cup qualifying squad
Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez has named a 21-man squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Austria.
Following on from last month's historic 1-0 win against England, Sanchez will have to contain the level of expectation within the camp as his side go in search of their third successive victory which started with the 2-0 win against Azerbaijan prior to the England victory.
With defenders Aaron Hughes and Chris Baird out through injury and suspension respectively, Sanchez has called up Lincoln City defender Gareth McAuley and Burnley full back Michael Duff. Baird however will be available for selection against Austria in Vienna on Wednesday week.
Saturday's game against Wales at Windsor Park will see Northern Ireland favoured due to a combination of factors, not least as Wales are propping up Group Six with just two points during this campaign.
Northern Ireland currently lie in fourth place just three points behind the third-placed Austrians.
Northern Ireland squad: Maik Taylor (Birmingham City), Roy Carroll (West Ham United), Michael Ingham (Wrexham), Colin Murdock (Rotherham United), Stephen Craigan (Motherwell), Chris Baird (Southampton), Tony Capaldi (Plymouth Argyle), Michael Duff (Burnley), Gareth McAuley (Lincoln City), Steve Davis (Aston Villa), Damien Johnson (Birmingham City), Chris Brunt (Sheffield Wednesday), Stuart Elliott (Hull City), Keith Gillespie (Sheffield United), Stephen Robinson (Luton Town), David Healy (Leeds United), James Quinn (Peterborough United), Warren Feeney (Luton Town), Steve Jones (Crewe Alexandra), Andy Smith (Preston North End), Ivan Sproule (Hibernian).
