Blast bomb device found in Newtownabbey
A blast bomb device has been discovered in Newtownabbey on Tuesday.
Army Technical Officers were tasked to examine a suspicious object found at premises in the Rathcoole area of the borough late last night.
Operations Manager for Newtownabbey Chief Inspector Chris Shead said: “This was a potentially lethal device which could have caused serious injury, even death had it exploded.
"The discovery of such an item in the middle of a housing estate could have had catastrophic results."
A number of items were removed for further examination.
Anyone with information about the discovery is asked to contact police at Newtownabbey on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

'Viable Device' Found In Newtownabbey
A 'viable device' has been found in Newtownabbey in the midst of a security alert. The device was discovered in the Cherrylands/Cloughfern area shortly after 06:00 this morning. The area was cordoned off as army bomb experts examined the device and carried out a controlled explosion.

Viable Pipe Bomb Device Found In Newtownabbey
A viable pipe bomb device has been found under a bridge following a security alert in Newtownabbey. The device was discovered at Whitehouse Park at approximately 8.50pm on Saturday. A number of homes were evacuated while the device was examined. All residents returned to their homes at around 1pm on Sunday.

Body of man found on outskirts of Belfast
The body of a man has been found at a flat in the outskirts of Belfast, it has emerged today. The discovery of the 47-year-old's body was made at the flat in the Rathcoole estate, Newtownabbey, shortly after 9pm on Thursday. The police and ambulance service were immediately called to the scene, however it is not yet known how the man died.
