George Best is 'severely ill'
Former Northern Ireland football star George Best is said to be "severely ill" in hospital, his consultant has confirmed.
The 59-year-old Belfast man had internal bleeding that was "very difficult to stop", his consultant Professor Roger Williams said.
Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live on Thursday, Prof. Williams said that Best had been on a ventilator overnight. However, despite his condition he was now stable and had a reasonable night.
His son, Callum, is reported to have described his father's condition as "touch and go".
Best had a liver transplant in 2002 which was a direct result of his many years of heavy drinking. Despite promising to give up alcohol he eventually began drinking again which ultimately led to many questioning whether he should have been given a new liver in the first place.
Today's news comes three weeks after Best was admitted to Cromwell Hospital in west London, following a kidney infection.

Work Underway For Free Hospital Parking In Northern Ireland
Work has begun at several hospital sites across Northern Ireland as part of the preparations for the introduction of free car parking in May 2026. Health and Social Care Trusts have been actively preparing for the implementation of a new traffic management system since the Hospital Parking Charges Act was passed in 2022.
