NI must continue to invest in skills - Minister
Enhancing the skills base is essential in improving the international competitiveness of Northern Ireland's economy.
That was the message from Enterprise and Skills Minister, Angela Smith, who published the latest Quarterly Economic Review today. The review indicates a positive outlook for the Northern Ireland economy and examines the challenges in relation to skills, one of the key drivers of productivity growth.
The Minister said: "The Northern Ireland economy continues to perform well against the backdrop of a continued global recovery. However there are a number of challenges that need to be addressed if we are to deliver the Northern Ireland Economic Vision.
"Government and industry must work together to ensure that the skills base in Northern Ireland continues to develop, meeting the needs of firms as the economy evolves. We must also work in partnership to ensure that there are opportunities in the workplace for all who wish to be in employment. The Skills Strategy we are working on will provide mechanisms for this partnership to take place."
The review contains the latest statistics for the global, UK, Republic of Ireland (RoI) and Northern Ireland (NI) economies and draws together a number of independent commentaries to provide a concise picture of the current economic climate.
