Second man charged over Northern Bank raid
A second man has appeared in court today charged with offences in connection with the £26 million Northern Bank robbery last December.
Martin McAliskey, 42, denied charges of perverting the course of justice, in relation to possession of a Ford Transit vehicle. He was granted bail.
On Monday morning, police arrested a 22-year-old man in Kilcoo, County Down in connection with their investigations.
Last week, Dominic McEvoy, 23, of Mullandra Park, Kilcoo, denied charges in relation to the robbery. He was remanded in custody.
One other man is still being held for questioning about the robbery.
The robbery of the Northern Bank headquarters in Belfast on December 20th, was blamed on the IRA, however, both the IRA and Sinn Fein denied the accusations.
While a quantity of money seized by Garda in Cork has been linked with the bank raid, virtually all the money remains unaccounted for and the Northern Bank has issued new notes as a result of the robbery.
