Police encourage better parking in Belfast
Police in south Belfast have reminded visitors to Belfast city centre of parking restrictions that apply in the main shopping area.
Distributing a new leaflet, Police, in partnership with the DRD Roads Service and Belfast City Centre Management, are aiming to ensure the city centre "is more accessible to all by providing parking advice to motorists visiting the city".
PSNI Inspector Ian Blayney said: "As is routine in Belfast all year round, we will be working to ensure that unauthorised vehicles do not enter restricted areas and that vehicles are parked safely and legally.
"There are over 10,000 parking spaces in Belfast City Centre at a number of reputable public car parks, which we want motorists to use. However on the run up to Christmas we don't want people to get fixed penalty notices to add to the expense of their festive shopping trip."
Welcoming the production of the new leaflet, Divisional Roads Manager, Joe Drew, said: "Roads Service is committed to improving conditions for all road users particularly pedestrians in the City Centre.
"Illegally parked vehicles also reduce the accessibility of the city centre for everyone but particularly those with disabilities".
Leaflets will be distributed by police officers on patrol in Belfast city centre and though the offices of the Belfast Welcome Centre in Donegall Place.

Primark Donates £500,000 To Support Businesses Affected By Fire
Retailer Primark is donating £500,000 to Belfast City Council's City Recovery Investment Fund. The fund is being set up after a number of businesses have been severely affected by the fire at the Bank Buildings which happened over three weeks ago. A cordon remains in place and 14 firms have been closed for up to four months.
