Police urge householders to keep keys safe
Police are appealing for the public to keep their keys safe following two burglaries and two car thefts from houses in west Belfast in recent days.
It is believed that both houses, situated in the Stewartstown Road and Ladybrook areas, were broken into in the early hours of Saturday morning, and car keys stolen. A Citroen Saxo car and Peugeot 406 were subsequently taken.
One of the vehicles was later discovered burnt out in the Dunmurry area while the second was found burnt out on the Glen Road.
Police said that recent improvements in car security meant that the easiest way for a thief to steal a car was to break into a house and take the actual keys for it - what is known as a ‘Creeper’ burglary.
Burglars and thieves are now targeting and burgling houses with cars in the driveway or even in the garage. Police advise that members of the public should secure their keys and their house, not only when it is unoccupied, but also when they are in it at night to avoid these types of burglaries.

Police in L'Derry have issued a fresh appeal for information and witnesses following a number of car thefts and attempted burglaries in the Foyle Springs area of the city. On 12th July, at around midnight, keys were reported to have been taken from a house in Lowry's Lane and a black Audi was reported stolen.

The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following two reports of vehicle thefts in Mid Ulster. Sometime between 10pm on Saturday 17th December and shortly after 7:35am on Sunday 18th December, it was reported that entry was gained to a black BMW X5 vehicle that was parked at a property in the Millbrook area of Coalisland.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of hijacking in Newtownards, Co Down. A man, aged in his 50s, was approached by a man armed with a knife after parking outside his house in the Trasnagh Drive area at around 4.30pm on Thursday, 11 August. The suspect demanded the man hand over his car keys.
