Police appeal for information following kidnapping

Police have appealed for information after a 58-year-old woman was kidnapped from her home in Co Down on Tuesday.

At around 9pm, up to seven armed and masked men entered the woman's house in Dromore were they bound and gagged both her and her husband.

The men then left, taking the woman in her own silver Vitara jeep, which was later found burnt out at Back Road in Drumbo. The woman was discovered in a laneway by police around 24 hours later.

Police said an organised crime gang was behind the kidnapping in a bid to get money from her husband's business and that they are particularly keen in hearing from anyone who saw the woman's vehicle at any time from 9pm on Monday.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Derek Williamson described the kidnapping as "a very harrowing experience for her and for her family."

Lagan Valley MP Jeffrey Donaldson said the ordeal must have been "horrendous" for the victim.

"We can only begin to guess at the mental and physical pain she must have suffered over the last 24 hours while she was held," he added.
