Tayto purchase part of Golden Wonder

County Armagh crisp makers Tayto have stepped in to purchase a portion of rival company Golden Wonder, which went into administration earlier this week.

The crisp manufacturer today confirmed buying the Pringles Mini brand section of the business, which will allow 195 of the former employees at its site in Northamptonshire to keep their jobs.

The Pringles Mini brand was subcontracted to Golden Wonder by Procter & Gamble, owner of the Pringles range, and today transferred the contract to Tayto under the deal.

Golden Wonder collapsed on Monday after struggling to compete with larger rival, Walkers and reported "significant" losses in 2005.

Tayto, which employs 350 staff at its base in Tandragee, Co Armagh, said the move was a major boost for its growth plans.

Last year, Tayto signed a £10 million contract to supply own label crisps to supermarket giant Tesco.
