Orangemen refused access to Garvaghy Road
The Northern Ireland Parades Commission has banned Drumcree Orangemen from marching down the Nationalist Garvaghy Road next week.
The ruling on the January 29 pararde was the first major decision to be made by the parade's body, since the appointment of two Orangemen to the Commission in November last year.
The Portadown District Lodge had requested permission to walk through the mainly Nationalist area on Sunday 29 January, a route they have been banned from walking since 1997 due to violent clashes and objections from residents.
Parades Commission Chairman Roger Poole today said that the parade along the Garvaghy Road might unsettle the current peaceful situation in the area.
He also added that the Commission had voted unanimously in favour of banning the contentious parade.

SF to meet Parades Commission over Twelfth parades
A meeting is to take place between Sinn Fein and the Parades Commission over a number of controversial Orange Order parades that are to take place in north Belfast on July 12. A delegation from the party is to meet the commission on Thursday morning with regard to parades along the Springfield Road and Crumlin Road planned for Friday.

The Stewartstown Road store, which has undergone a major redevelopment, will reopen on December 5th. The new Carryduff store, Lidl’s 43rd in Northern Ireland, will open on December 12th.

Over 800 young people from schools in Lisburn and Castlereagh attended a hard-hitting road safety message at the PSNI Road Safe Roadshow on 19 November. The roadshow, supported by AXA Insurance and the Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership, aims to educate young drivers about the dangers of irresponsible driving.
