Teenager released after ransom was paid

An 18-year-old man has been abducted and then released a few hours later after a ransom was paid.

Police have reported that the teenager was bundled into a vehicle by a number of men, in the Berwick Road area of North Belfast, at around 8pm last night.

It is believed that the man's mobile phone was taken from him and used by one of the assailants to call a member of the victim's family to demand money.

The relative was ordered to go to their place of work and get an undisclosed sum of money and drop it off at a designated pick up point.

The teenager was then released close to Harding Place, in the New Lodge area.

The teenager was not injured during the ordeal.

Detectives in North Belfast have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the Stratford or Eskdale areas of Ardoyne or at Harding Place, between 8pm and 10.30pm last night to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
