Man arrested in connection with East Belfast robberies

A man has been arrested in connection with a spate of armed robberies in business premises in Belfast.

He was arrested at around 10am this morning on the Mayfair Road and two firearms were found in his car.

The man is believed to have been involved with robberies which occurred shortly after 7am this morning on the Glen Road, the Rosetta Road, the Comber Road, and the Castlereagh Road in the East of the city.

A sum of money was taken in all cases, and in the Rosetta incident, a member of the public sustained injuries as the assailant struck him across the head as he made his escape.

A short time later, at around 8.30am, a convenience store was robbed on the Sommerville Avenue area in East Belfast. However in this incident, no weapon was used.

In a separate attack, a pharmacy on the Castlereagh Road was robbed at around 5.30pm last night. An amount of drugs and a sum of cash were taken.
