Funeral of hit-and-run victim takes place

The mourners attending a funeral for the woman who died following a hit-and-run incident at the weekend have heard that the Andersonstown Road can be a "race track".

The priest conducting requiem Mass at St Agnes' Church on the Andersonstown Road said that the road can be a "race track for some motorists" and was a "death trap for unsuspecting pedestrians".

Ann-Marie Dineen, 38, was killed after being struck by a car outside the Whitefort Inn, on the Andersonstown Road in the early hours of Saturday morning. Her best friend suffered serious head and leg injuries during the incident.

She had been set to go on a trip to Eurodisney with her eight year-old daughter later this year.

A 51-year-old man was remanded in custody yesterday charged with causing death and grievous bodily harm by dangerous driving.
