Lord Alderdice resigns from Alliance Party
The former speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly and leader of the Alliance Party Lord Alderdice has resigned from the party.
Lord Alderdice said the decision was to prevent any conflict of interest with his role on the Independent Monitoring Commission (IMC).
One of the four-strong IMC panel, Lord Alderdice, who stepped down as party leader in 1998 on his appointment as speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, said it was the right time to leave the party.
The IMC is charged by the British and Irish governments to report on the activity of paramilitary groups and normalisation of security measures in Northern Ireland.
The body was set up in January 2004 with four commissioners, Lord John Alderdice, former Irish Department of Justice Secretary General Joe Brosnan, former Metropolitan Police Deputy Assistance Commissioner John Greive, and former CIA Deputy Director Dick Kerr.

Work Underway For Free Hospital Parking In Northern Ireland
Work has begun at several hospital sites across Northern Ireland as part of the preparations for the introduction of free car parking in May 2026. Health and Social Care Trusts have been actively preparing for the implementation of a new traffic management system since the Hospital Parking Charges Act was passed in 2022.
