Taxi driver threatened at gun point

Police are investigating an incident during which a taxi driver was threatened at gun point in the Ligoniel area of north Belfast.

One of four men picked up by the taxi on the Crumlin Road produced what is believed to have been a small handgun, pressed it to the neck of the driver, and attempted to fire it.

A struggle ensued and the driver managed to escape from the vehicle.

The four men then fled the scene.

It is reported that the attack has been claimed by the Red Hand Defenders, a cover name for UDA and LVF.

Police have appealed for anyone with information on the attack to contact them.
