Three arrests in cross border raids

Three people have been arrested in a major joint PSNI and Gardai operation this morning into suspected organised crime activities in the border area.

Gardai arrested two men and a woman for questioning following the operation during which a number of searches were carried out.

The dawn raids in south Armagh involved police, HM Revenue and Customs and other agencies, while a parallel operation was mounted in County Louth in the Republic by Gardai.

It is reported that the home of a leading Republican, Thomas Murphy, has been sealed off.

A spokesperson for the PSNI confirmed that the searches which commenced at 6am this morning were an "intelligence led investigation" in connection with suspected money laundering, fuel laundering and organised crime in the South Armagh area, but no other details have been released.
