Government funding boost secures jobs at Ballyclare Community Concerns
The Department for Social Development (DSD) has today confirmed continuing funding for Ballyclare Community Concerns, ensuring that three key community support posts, including Centre Manager, Admin Assistant and Caretaker will be retained until August 2007.
Ballyclare Community Concerns (BCC) was established in 1991 and provides and facilitates community-based services to meet the economic and social needs of the people of the town and the surrounding hinterland.
Services include a luncheon club for about 100 senior citizens per week, a charity shop, women's groups, IT training, signposting to advice services, youth facilities and a credit union.
Speaking today during a visit to Ballyclare, Social Development Minister David Hanson MP, announced that £85,000 of funding has been allocated to Ballyclare Community Concerns to allow key services to continue.
Mr Hanson said: "My Department recognises that tackling deprivation and building communities is not easy and that we can only succeed and bring about real change by working in partnership with political representatives, local residents, community groups and statutory agencies."
The Minister added: "This funding award recognises the vital role played by Ballyclare Community Concerns in providing support to the people of Ballyclare and will enable the group to widen their services to reach other sections of the community."
During today's visit, the Minister officially opened the BCC's charity shop, and helped local residents bury a time capsule at the site of the new Resource Centre.
