SEELB votes for £4m cuts
The South Eastern Education and Library Board have to accept the government's proposals to cut its budget by £4 million in the next financial year.
Members of the SEELB met today with Education Minister, Angela Smith to say that they could not accept £4.3 million cuts, which would have a drastic impact on the budget for special needs schools.
The delegates were warned that if an agreement on a budget plan was not reached, then the government could appoint a commissioner to run the board.
The members voted to accept the cut, but it was reported to be split between the councillors who rejected the cut to board members who voted for it.
Earlier this week, the Belfast Education and Library Board refused to cut £6.6 million from their budget.
Speaking after the vote, Belfast Education and Library Board Chairman, Jim Rodgers said that the board members felt that they could not carry out the governments "dirty work."
The BELB has called a special meeting to discuss the issue again next Wednesday.

Four commissioners are to take over the responsibility of the South Eastern Education and Library Board, after the original board failed to meet a deadline implementing school cuts. The SEELB was given a strict deadline of 6pm yesterday to approve cost cutting measures which would affect special needs schools in the board area.

Pathway Fund Applications Open For Early Years Providers
Education Minister, Paul Givan, has announced the opening of online applications for the Targeted Early Years Pathway Fund for the 2025/26 and 2026/27 academic years. The Pathway Fund, introduced in 2016, aims to provide early years education services for children aged 0-4 who may be at risk of falling behind in their education.

15 Expressions Of Interest In Shared Education Campuses Programme
News that 15 expressions of interest have been lodged with the Department under the Shared Education Campuses Programme has been welcomed by Education Minister John O'Dowd. The Minister launched the Shared Education Campuses Programme in January, with a deadline of 31 March for receipt for expressions of interest.
