Antrim Social Club targeted in overnight robbery

Police are appealing for information following a robbery at a social club in Antrim in the early hours of this morning.

It is understood that thieves broke into the Ulster Scots Club on Bridge Street in the town just after 3am, and made off with a safe and a quantity of alcohol.

Detectives have recovered a number of items from a nearby riverbank and taken them away for examination.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in County Down, a convenience store was robbed at around 12.30 yesterday afternoon.

A man, armed with a knife, entered the Mace Express store in the William Street area of Newry and threatened staff.

The robber then reached into the till and made off in the direction of the Quays shopping centre with an undisclosed sum of cash.

The thief is thought to be in his teens and has been described as around 5' 9" in height and of slim build.

He is also thought to be wearing a black hooded top with white writing on it.

Police have appealed for anyone with information on either incident to contact detectives on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
