Two people seriously assaulted in Downpatrick
Two people have been treated in hospital following an attack in County Down last night.
At around 7.35pm, police were called to the English Street area of Downpatrick, following reports that a man and a woman had been seriously assaulted outside the front door of their home by two people.
The 38-year-old man was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured skull, and the woman aged 31, received a stab wound to her thigh.
When police arrived at the scene, they arrested a 26-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, and recovered a hammer and a knife with a 5-inch blade, which are suspected to have been used in the incident.
The pair remain in police custody and detectives in Downpatrick are currently investigating the crime.
Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone who may have any information in relation to it, to contact them on 028 44 615011 or on 0845 600 8000. They can also be contacted on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Man arrested after woman dies in collision
A 61-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal road accident in County Down. A woman, believed to be in her 50s, was hit by a vehicle on the Comber Road in Newtownards at about 9.45pm last night. The victim’s name has not yet been released.

Woman Arrested After Sudden Death Of Man In L'Derry
A woman has been arrested following the sudden death of a man in Magherafelt. A 46-year-old man died in L'Derry in the early hours of Tuesday, 05 December. Police are treating the death as suspicious. A 32-year-old woman has been arrested and is assisting police with their enquiries.

Man Held Over Double Murder
A 33-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder of a man and woman in east Belfast remains in custody and is assisting police with their enquiries. Police investigating the murder in the Ravenhill Court area of east Belfast on Friday 13 December have named the deceased as 42-year-old Finbar McGrillen and 40-year-old Caron Smyth.

Robber’s gun jams during Castlewellan hold-up
During an armed robbery in a County Down shop, a 19-year-old woman has had a gun held to her head and the trigger pulled several times without the gun firing. The incident occurred when a masked man brandishing a gun burst into McAnulty’s store in Castlewellan’s main street on Wednesday March 27 around 11.20pm.
