Travellers voluntarily leave school grounds
A group of travellers, who set up camp in the grounds of a school in County Londonderry at the weekend, have left the site.
Around six caravans moved into the car park at Sperrin Integrated College in Magherafelt on Saturday afternoon and forced authorities to close the school to its 300 pupils today.
The school's principal, Alistair Rowan, had held discussions with police and solicitors about getting the Travellers moved.
However, it is understood that after negotiations with authorities, the family of around 20 people, decided to move on voluntarily.
The school principal has today said that he is delighted that the situation has been resolved.
Mr Rowan added that the travellers had been civil and no money had to change hands in order for them to leave.
The principal said: "We have had a very satisfactory conclusion to this, although we are concerned that the children lost a day in school."
The school is set to re-open again to pupils tomorrow.
