Charity worker's funeral takes place

The funeral of the father of murdered taxi driver Michael McGoldrick has taken place.

The service was held at St Anthony's Church in Lurgan, County Armagh.

Mr McGoldrick, 65, who was also called Michael, died last week in Moldova while carrying out work for the United Christian Aid charity, which he co-founded after the murder of his son.

Mr McGoldrick devoted his life to charity work after his son was fatally shot by the LVF during the height of the Drumcree standoff in 1996.

He had been working as a taxi driver when he was shot dead by loyalist paramilitaries.

His body was later found in his vehicle in Aghagallon near Lurgan.

He had been shot five times in the head.

In 2003, Craigavon man Clifford McKeown was charged with the killing and sentenced for a minimum of 24-years.

After the murder, Mr McGoldrick and his wife Bridie, became heavily involved in charity work. The charity worker was with his wife, when he died suddenly.
