Family escape injury in County Antrim fire
A County Antrim family has escaped injury following a house fire yesterday evening.
The Fire Rescue Service was called to the house at St Quentin Park, Glengormley at around 10.30pm, after reports that a woman and three children were trapped inside.
Firefighters broke a window in the property and used a ladder to bring the woman, her two children aged two and three-years-old and her 11-year-old nephew to safety.
They were taken to hospital where they were treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.
Martin Cassidy from the Fire and Rescue service said the family had just gone to bed when they were alerted by their smoke alarm.
"When the mother went out on to the landing, she found that escape route had closed off because of thick acrid smoke," he said.
"They made their way back into the bedroom and closed the door and went to the window."
Mr Cassidy added that the mother's decision to remain with the children in the bedroom and the quick actions of the responding fire crews, had resulted in a happy outcome.

An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.
