Bomb making materials found during police search
Police in County Armagh have seized suspected bomb making materials including a quantity of fertilizer, during a planned search earlier today.
The raid was carried out on a suspected bomb making factory in the Antrim Road area of Lurgan.
Detectives believe the find to be connected to dissident republicans and four men, aged 22, 26, 36 and 46-years-old have been arrested under the Terrorism Act.
SDLP assembly member Dolores Kelly has today said that she believes that police have foiled a “major attack.”
Ms Kelly continued by saying that there is “no doubt that these dissident republicans were intent on causing major trauma and damage."
She added: "They were also playing with the lives of the people of Lurgan by making such a sophisticated device in the heart of the community."
It has been reported that the intended device could have weighed up to 200lbs, and police have sealed off a part of the town while they continue with the operation.
