Two arrested in connection with attempted murder

Police have appealed for information in connection with an attempted murder in east Belfast last night.

At around 10.30pm a 50-year-old man was assaulted by male on Greenville Road in the Beersbridge Road area of the city.

The victim was kicked and punched and was later taken to hospital where he received treatment for serious injuries.

A 34-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were arrested and the scene and are currently in custody assisting police with their inquiries.

At this stage detectives do not believe that the attack was linked to paramilitaries and have asked for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information relating to it to contact them at Strand town 0845 600 8000, or on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
