Police officers detected drink-driving
In the answer to a Parliamentary question from Upper Bann MP David Simpson of the DUP, it has been revealed that 57 police officers have been detected drink-driving in the last five years.
Commenting on the figures Deputy Chief Constable Alan Leighton told the BBC that the officers faced severe penalties.
He said that as with any individual, they would face a court case, but that they would also face a disciplinary hearing where the panel had several options for sanctions ranging from a caution to dismissal from the service.
He added that other sanctions such as reduction in rank, fines and being asked to resign were also possible.

Four men have been arrested in Newtownabbey on suspicion of dissident republican activity. PSNI officers detained the men on Thursday evening aged 30,35 and 46. They are being questioned in Antrim police station.

Hamill Inquiry Witnesses To Be Screened
The Robert Hamill Inquiry has ruled that witnesses who are serving or retired police officers may give their evidence from behind a screen. However, they will not be granted full anonymity. This ruling has been made in response to applications for such screening on behalf of a number of former or still serving police officers due to give evidence.
