Belfast singer represents Ireland at Eurovision final

Belfast singer Brian Kennedy is to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest final in Athens tomorrow night.

The singer will perform one of his own compositions, entitled 'Every Song is a Cry for Love', which is hoped will win the contest for Ireland for an eighth time.

Kennedy's entry will go up against a number of other acts representing their countries, such as County Down born singer Daz Sampson, who is representing the UK with his song 'Teenage Life', and the Finnish masked and armoured death metal entry, Lordi.

Around 23 countries took part in the semi-final, with just 10 contenders managing to win places in tomorrow night's grand final.

Hosts Greece and nine top-scoring nations from last year's contest were already guaranteed places in the final, with France, Germany, Spain and the UK automatically guaranteed places on the basis that they are the four biggest countries to take part.
