NI beaches included in 'Good Beach Guide'
Eight Northern Ireland beaches have been included in this year's Good Beach Guide.
Although this is an increase on last year's total of six, the Marine Conservation Society has said that the number is still too few.
The Society have also suggested that although pollution levels in the water have also decreased since last year, the waste treatment infrastructure desperately needs more investment.
This comes after Newcastle beach failed to meet the legal minimum standard of water quality.
Over 500 of the UK's 800 beaches tested for cleanliness, have been recommended for excellent water quality, which is a slight increase from last year's total of 453.
A spokesman for the Marine Conservation Society said that this years results are great news for UK-beach goers.
"Britain's beaches have definitely bounced back from the relative low of summer 2004, which was one of the wettest on record," he said.
The Good Beach Guide provides information on lifeguard cover, facilities, activities, access, parking, transport and maps on all UK beaches.
