£3m worth of cocaine seized in Belfast
Two men have been arrested following what has been described as the biggest cocaine seizure ever found in Northern Ireland.
The drugs bust, which happened at Belfast International Airport yesterday afternoon, recovered around 13.5kg of cocaine, with an estimated street value of £3 million.
Police have said that the two men arrested, both carrying German passports, were arrested as they were preparing to leave the country, on a flight bound for Luton in London.
Police have said the drugs were concealed within four cases which were detected by the airport's X-ray security system.
They are currently being held for questioning at the serious crime unit in Antrim.
A spokesman for the Eastern Drug and Alcohol coordinating team, welcomed the drugs seizure and congratulated the officers involved in the operation and said that he expects more of these seizures to take place.
