DUP MLA quits environmental team
DUP MLA Jim Wells has resigned from the party's environmental team, it has today emerged.
The South Down MLA decided to step down from his position as one of the party's spokesmen on environmental issues, after it became clear that his views no longer coincided with the opinions of his party members.
It has been reported that Mr Wells, a former RSPB and National Trust employee, was offended by comments made by colleagues, however Mr Wells has passed the row off as nothing but "a storm in a teacup."
The disagreement is thought to be over planning policy in rural areas.
Despite his resignation, Mr Wells has said that he will remain as a member of the DUP.
Speaking earlier, Mr Wells said: "I have told colleagues I will never comment again on behalf of the party on environmental matters and planning.
"However I haven't quit the party. In fact I'm happy with all other aspects of party policy."
The DUP has refused to make any comment on Mr Wells' decision.

'More Difficult' If Poots Does Not Take First Minister Role - Lewis
The NI Secretary of State has said that Edwin Poots' decision not to take on the First Minister's role will make things more difficult and that it would be a mistake. Brandon Lewis suggested to the Sunday Times that Mr Poots would not have regular access to the secretary of state or with Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

DUP Bypass Both Wells And Poots For South Down
The DUP have bypassed both Jim Wells and Edwin Poots by selecting a new party member to stand in South Down for the next Assembly elections on 05 May. Jim Well has represented South Down for 24 years, and both him and current Lagan Valley representative Edwin Poots, had put themselves forward for selection to contest the next election.

Ballynahinch police station raided
Burglars have broken into a police station in County Down, it has been revealed. The station at Ballynahinch was raided, however nothing was taken in the overnight break-in. An assembly member for the area, Jim Wells, said weapons or confidential documents could have been stolen from the station.
