Man released on bail on cigarette charges
A 41-year-old man, accused of possessing over 15 million cigarettes, and with terrorism charges, has today been released on bail by a High Court judge in Belfast.
Henry McLaughlin, from Derryvaren Road, Coalisland, County Tyrone, was also charged with concealing more than £65,000 under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
During the hearing it emerged that two co-accused have subsequently been charged with membership of the Real IRA.
Bail was set at £2,000 with two sureties of £10,000 each, half to be paid in cash.
A lawyer for the prosecution today alleged that Mr McLaughlin was part of "an organised criminal enterprise on a substantial scale" and added that police had evidence to back up his claims.
It is understood that the charges relate to the recovery of cigarettes in Armagh.
