Report reveals new house price rises
The Northern Ireland Housing Bulletin published today by the Department for Social Development has revealed an average 12.3% rise for new house prices.
The report included the sale figures of new houses and apartments being built in Northern Ireland during the period of January to March 2006.
The publication revealed that the average selling price of National House Building Council (NHBC) registered new houses, sold was £137,000, an increase of 12.3% on the same quarter in 2005.
It also showed that the average intended selling price of NHBC-registered flats and maisonettes was £146,000, 39% higher than the same period in March 2005.
Detached houses represented 28% of all NHBC intended housing starts, with the total number of NHBC starts recorded for this quarter representing an increase of 2.6% for the same time last year.
Of the new dwellings actually started, 78.6% were commissioned by the private sector and the total number of starts increased from 4,046 in 2005, to 4,438 for the same period this year.
Belfast was the council area with the greatest number of new housing starts, namely 1,052, which represents an increase of 39.5%, in the city council since last year.
A total of 5,632 households presented as homeless to the Housing Executive with 'Sharing Breakdown or Family Dispute' being the most common reason cited.
