Workers strike at Armagh cheese factory
Around 100 workers at a County Armagh cheese factory are expected to go on strike today.
It is understood that the dispute at the factory, which is one of the largest mozzarella cheese manufacturers in Europe, is over a 3% pay offer.
In a statement released by Glanbia in Magheralin, the company said it regretted the worker's action, but claimed that the offer was above average for the local manufacturing sector.
The statement continued by saying that given the substantial investments that have already taken place at the Magheralin facility in recent years, "this industrial action can only jeopardise the long-term interests of both the company and its employees."
It added that the company hope to have the dispute settled as soon as possible, as prolonged action will be detrimental to all involved.
A union representative today said that the offer meant that full time staff would lose out on overtime opportunities and added that workers had already suffered a loss of earnings over this past 12 months because of the company bringing in agency labour and offering them the additional overtime, which full time staff would have originally be given.
