Two arrested after firearm find

Two men have been arrested after police recovered a firearm in their car during a routine check in north Belfast in the early hours of this morning.

The vehicle was stopped at a police checkpoint on the Westland Road area of the city at around 1am today.

The two were arrested at the scene, and have been taken to the Serious Crime Unit in Antrim for questioning by detectives.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Five arrested as firearm is recovered
Five people have been arrested following a police operation in Co Down on Monday. They are being questioned after police stopped two cars in Newry and recovered a firearm, which was taken away for forensic tests. The operation took place close to the city's Catholic cathedral at around 11am.

Man Charged In Possession Of Heroin
A man is to appear in court charged in possession of heroin. Police arrested five people during searches of a property in Newry on Wednesday, 16 January. Two men have also been charged in possession of a Class A drug. A 50-year-old woman has also been charged with permitting premises to be used for the supply of a Class A drug.

Two Men Arrested On Suspicion Of Kidnapping
Police have arrested two men on suspicion of kidnapping. The males, aged 33 and 31, were detained in Co L'Derry. It is believed there arrests are in connection with an incident in the city on Thursday, 26 October. No further details have been released.

Man Arrested Under Terrorism Act
A man has been arrested under the Terrorism Act in Co Tyrone. The 34-year-old was detained in the Coalisland area on Tuesday, 19 June. He is currently in custody at Musgrave police station. The arrest is in relation to a weapons and ammunition find at a garage in the Mountjoy Road in 2011.
