Top NI equestrian rider killed during event
A leading Northern Ireland equestrian rider has been killed during a cross-country event in England over the weekend.
Sherelle Duke, 28, from Portadown in County Armagh, died yesterday, after her horse fell on top of her at the event in Brockenhurst Park near Southampton.
The former World Young Rider Champion, who also won a team bronze in that event in 1999 and was a member of the Irish team in the 2003 European Championships, was regarded as “a super-fit and talented athlete” who improved Northern Ireland's standing in the field of equestrian sport.
Sherelle Duke's family set up the Dukes Transport Company, which is a highly regarded in the Portadown area.
For many years, she rode in the company colours of red and white.
