Man remanded over Ballymena murder
A 23-year-old man has appeared in Coleraine Magistrates Court today charged with the murder of a man in County Antrim on Friday afternoon.
Ryan Patrick McLaughlin, originally from County Tyrone, is understood to have been sharing a flat in a hostel with the victim for just four days, when the incident happened.
The victim, who has been named as 50-year-old John Stanley Adams from the Ballymena area, was found dead at Alveston House, a hostel in the Dunclug Gardens area the town at around 4.30pm on Friday afternoon.
It is understood that he had died as a result of head injuries sustained during an assault.
A detective sergeant today told the court that McLaughlin made no reply when charged with the murder, however added that during questioning, detectives had learned that there were a number of medical issues relating directly to the defendant.
He will reappear before the same court next month.

Woman Charged With Attempted Murder After Man Stabbed In Co Down

A man shot in the chest by a police officer following an incident in L'Derry has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.The 42-yet-old suspect was arrested on Monday, 19 April, following the shooting in the Celandine Court area on Saturday, 17 April. He is being treated in hospital and is to be questioned by the PSNI in due course.
