Hanged man had killed toddler

An inquest has today heard how a 22-year-old County Tyrone man took his own life after knocking down and killing a child in 2004.

The court today heard how Jonathan Montgomery's vehicle mounted the pavement, striking three-year-old Adam Mullan and his mother on Boxing day 2004.

Shortly after the incident, Mr Montgomery drove to the nearby Riddell's Quarry, on Lupins Avenue in the village of Donemana, and hanged himself.

The hearing today heard that the driver had had a row with his estranged lover, who was also standing on the pavement at the time of the incident.

The child's mother survived the incident.
