Body found in Ballymena

Police in County Antrim are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body yesterday afternoon.

The body of a woman believed to be aged in her late teens or early twenties, was discovered wrapped in a blanket in a car park in the Mount street area of Ballymena at around 3.30pm yesterday.

At this stage, detectives are treating the death as suspicious and a post-mortem examination is due to be carried out later today to establish how the woman died.

Police have appealed for assistance from the public in identifying the body, and have asked for anyone who knows of anyone who did not return home, or show up at school, college or work over recent days, or a female friend who has not been in touch – which is out of character - to contact them in Ballymena on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
