Schools join forces to fight closure
Four primary schools based in the Lisburn area have decided to join forces in a bid to prevent the Southern Education and Library Board (SEELB) from closing them down.
Last night, parents, staff and governors held a meeting where they agreed to plead for a cheaper alternative - to band together all four schools into one single new school in one of the existing buildings.
Lambeg, Charley Memorial, Drumbo and Hillhall Primary Schools currently have a combined number of 100 pupils, with one having only 13 students enrolled.
DUP MP Jeffrey Donaldson has said that he will support the new plan, and Lisburn City Council are also expected to be asked for their support.
Despite this, it is not expected that the four commissioners appointed by the British government to run the SEELB when the original board failed to approve cutbacks, will agree to their proposal.
